Morbi Bridge Mishap : Another Fake News Busted

Morbi: At a time when Gujarat is mourning the loss of lives in the Morbi Bridge Collapse Mishap, some people on social media are spreading fake news about the calamity. Yesterday, it was Congress spreading fake lies about Gujarat’s agriculture minister. Today, some accounts on Twitter claim that injured people were admitted to the pediatric ward because only that was clean. This a sheer case of petty vulturism over a mishap in which about 150 people lost their lives.

When a user tweeted that “Child care waale kamre mein adult patients? Matlab sab se saaf yahi rooms the? Hmmm.”

However, the health department busted the myth and tweeted that the ward in which the injured patients are admitted in general hospital of Morbi after the 30th October tragedy, is the General ward and is used for ortho, surgical & Pediatric patients.

“It’s not exclusively a Pediatric ward therefore the news in some media that the Pediatric ward was vacated is not correct & devoid of any fact. The only purpose seems to mislead the public”, the tweet from the Health Department of Gujarat said.

Similarly, there was another fake news going around that some patient leg was plastered on 1st November because PM Modi was going to meet him and not on the day of the mishap. This claim also turned out to be false propaganda as the Journalist who covered the story from which the picture was taken took to Twitter to bust the fake news.

In a series of tweets, Abhinav Panday wrote that “Ashwin injured his leg after falling from the bridge. That day he got his feet bandaged and went home. When the pain increased, came back to the hospital, X-ray was done. The fracture came out, then plaster was applied. There is a question from the policymakers on the accident, but the agenda being run by making this collage is wrong.”

He also shared the video clip of the patient himself in which the patient says that the old bandage was applied first but the pain didn’t go away then the X-ray was done by the hospital and then the plastered was applied as the leg was fractured.

Later the Gujarat Health Department also busted the fake claim of Ashwin not being plastered earlier in a reply yo the tweet of Hasan Safin (AAP Worker).

The Health dept. said tweet about a patient where right knee has been covered by small bandage & compared with above knee slab picture of same patient. This decision was taken by competent orthopedician of the civil hosp. Morbi after carefully & diligently studying progress of the patient. Obviously if the concerned doctors feels that some changes are to be required & additional bandaging/additional splintage is required so according treating doctor changed bandaging and there is nothing peculiar/wrong practice about it. It was not done for any show purpose.

“In any case the patient treatment is continuously monitored and changed if required. The tweet tries to mislead the public,” the statement said.
