April 16, 2023
Ahmedabad: A court of Chief Metropolitan Magistrate JL Chovatiya has summoned Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Rajya Sabha member Sanjay Singh under CRPC section 204 and asked them to remain present in the court on May 23 in response to a defamation plea against them filed by Registrar of the Gujarat University. Kejriwal heads the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), while Sanjay Singh is second in command.
A plea filed by the Registrar of the university on behalf of the university in the city’s Metro court claims that remarks made by Kejriwal and Sanjay Singh caused damage to the prestige of the university. Kejriwal and Sanjay Singh had in the press conference had made certain remarks regarding Gujarat University after the Gujarat High Court in its order fined Kejriwal for his plea seeking Prime Minister’s degree, which the university had already put on its website.
