Police nabs Farhan Patel in Surat gold smuggling case; Dubai based Salman Panwala’s name surfaces

Surat: Police has nabbed Farhan Patel in Rs. 25.26 crore gold smuggling case in which 48.20 kg gold is seized by DRI.

DRI has alleged that Farhan Patel had smuggled one kg gold and handed it over to Mumbai. In another trip to Dubai, Farhan had handed over 1 kg gold to immigration officer at Surat airport in washroom.

Farhan was produced in court and sent on one day remand. Police have earlier arrested Uvesh Imtiyaz Sheikh, Sakib Mustak Atashbajiwala and Yasir Sheikh in this case along with Surat airport’s Immigration Police Sub Inspector Parag Dave.

Police have in its investigation found that Dubai based Salman Penwala would give Rs. 20,000 per trip to Farhan Patel for smuggling of gold. Farhan Patel’s name in this case was revealed by another accused Yasir Sheikh’s brother Mohsin Sheikh.
