79 deaths due to cyclones in Gujarat in last 3 years; Second highest in country

New Delhi: A total of 79 people lost their lives in the aftermath of cyclones that hit the Gujarat coast during the last 3 years, as stated by the Union Minister of Earth Sciences, Kiren Rijiju, in response to a question from a Rajya Sabha member during the ongoing monsoon session of Parliament.
In a written reply, Rijiju stated that a total of 299 people died nationwide due to several cyclones that occurred between 2020 and 2022. Out of these 299 fatalities, 79 were reported from Gujarat. However, the most deaths were reported in West Bengal for this period. The reply also mentioned that a total of 4 severe to extremely severe cyclonic storms occurred in the Arabian Sea from 2020 till now, namely, NISARGA in 2020, Tauktae in 2021, Shaheen in 2021, and Biporjoy in 2023.
