RTO cancels Tathya Patel’s driving license for life
August 10, 2023
Ahmedabad: The Ahmedabad Regional Transport Office (RTO) has revoked Tathya Patel’s driving license, the primary accused in the recent Iskon Flyover Accident case. The RTO cited Patel’s history of repeated offences as the basis for this action.
Ruturaj Desai, the Regional Transport Officer of Ahmedabad, disclosed that Patel had received a notice to appear and provide a defense. However, Patel neither appeared nor submitted a response. Based on the three First Information Reports (FIRs) filed against him, including the main one for the Iskon Flyover tragedy, the RTO decided to permanently cancel his license.
RTO officials clarified that Patel does have the option to appeal this decision within 30 days to the transport authorities in Gandhinagar. Failure to do so will result in the permanent revocation of his driving privileges.
In a related development, Principal District Judge D M Vyas rejected the bail application submitted by Pragnesh Patel, Tathya Patel’s father. Pragnesh was arrested for criminal intimidation when he arrived at the accident site and took his son to the hospital. While his defense argued that any father’s initial reaction would be to protect his son, the prosecution countered that Pragnesh exhibited a lack of concern for the injured victims at the scene who were struggling for their lives. The prosecution highlighted Pragnesh’s alleged history of threats and intimidation as part of their opposition to his bail plea. DeshGujarat
