Four from Gujarat dead in landslide in Uttarakhand

Uttarakhand: A landslide tragically engulfed a Swift Dzire car on the road from Haridwar to Kedarnath, resulting in the loss of five lives, with four of them identified as Gujaratis. The bodies of all individuals have been successfully recovered.

The incident occurred in Rudraprayag district, between Haridwar and Kedarnath. The car was buried under the debris caused by the landslide. Among the occupants were four Gujarati devotees, with three hailing from Ahmedabad and one from Mehmedabad.

The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) initiated rescue operations as soon as the incident was reported. However, these efforts were hindered by heavy rainfall. The retrieval of five bodies was accomplished on Friday as the weather conditions improved. The list of deceased individuals includes Jigar R. Modi, Mahesh Desai, Divyesh Parekh, and Manish Kumar, along with Mintu Kumar from Haridwar.

Commenting on the tragic event, Gujarat’s Minister of State for Home, Harsh Sangahvi, tweeted, “Upon learning of the unfortunate demise of five individuals, including four Gujaratis, due to a landslide near Tarsali on the Kedarnath highway in Uttarakhand, Union Home Minister Amit Shah took immediate action with the support of the Uttarakhand State Government and carried out an exercise to bring the bodies of the Gujarati dead who lost their lives in this accident to Gujarat.”

Shankarbhai Chaudhary, Isanpur Ward Corporator, conveyed that three residents from the New Aarti Society in Ghodasar, Isanpur Ward, and a youth from Mehmedabad lost their lives due to the landslide in Uttarakhand. In collaboration with the government, MLA Amul Bhatt is coordinating arrangements for bringing the deceased bodies to Ahmedabad after the completion of postmortem examinations. DeshGujarat
