Sardar Sarovar Narmada dam achieves full storage

Gandhinagar: In a very good news for Gujarat and Gujaratis across the world, the State’s lifeline Sardar Sarovar Narmada dam has achieved 100 percent storage of water during 4 to 5 am today.
The dam responsible for drinking water needs of majority areas of Gujarat in addition to irrigation requirements has designed gross storage capacity of 9460 MCM. At 5 am today the storage in the dam was in match with this figure. The highest level of water in the dam is 138.68 m which is achieved during 4 am to 5 am today, which is also the birthday of Prime Minister Narendrabhai Modi who played instrumental role in ensuring the completion of the Narmada dam project as Chief Minister of the State and later as Prime Minister of India.
23 gates of the dam are opened for release of over 18.41 lakh cusecs water against inflow of massive 19.26 lakh cusecs thanks to heavy rains in upstream areas of Madhya Pradesh and subsequent release of water from the dams including Indirasagar. Over 16,000 cusecs water was being released to canals from Sardar Sarovar dam as of 5 am.
Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel is set to welcome the full storage level of Narmada dam at Ektanagar, Kevadiya at 8 am.
The level of of Narmada river at Golden gate in Bharuch was above danger mark of 24 ft as of 5 am.
In more good news, Kadana dam in Mahisagar district of Central Gujarat where storage was not sufficient till now, is now fast filling up and set to witness 100 percent storage. Against over 6.92 lakh cusecs inflow at 5 am, over 1.82 lakh cusecs water was being released from Kadana dam at 5 am. The dam is now over 78 percent full.
Until yesterday, the not-so-good level of water at Gujarat’s second largest Ukai dam over river Tapi which is also the lifeline of South Gujarat was causing some worries, but in the last 24 hours, the dam is fast filling up. At 5 am, Ukai dam was 87.76 percent full with the good inflow of over 3.66 lakh cusecs. The level was 103.60 m against the full level of 105.16 m. DeshGujarat
