Passenger booked for carrying live 9MM cartridge in bag at Ahmedabad Airport

By Saumya Bhatt, Ahmedabad: A senior security staffer at Ahmedabad airport’s Domestic terminal found presence of a live 9MM pistol cartridge in a passenger’s bag yesterday. The incident occurred at 3:30 AM during the screening of luggage for Vistara Air flight UK 918 to Mumbai. The passenger had no weapon license or permit for the cartridge. A police complaint is filed against the passenger at the Airport police station.

Prashant Saheta was on security screening duty at Level 3. A navy blue colored bag that was rejected earlier at Level 2 was sent to Level 3 for screening. The screening showed that there was a live 9MM pistol cartridge in the bag. Prashant escalated the matter to the shift in-charge.

Ankit Dwivedi, the shift in-charge, questioned the passenger Daya Chhayan Nafis Mansuri (23) about the cartridge. He claimed the cartridge was from a firing practice session in America and may have been left in the bag accidentally. He also stated that he had no weapon license or permit for the 9MM live cartridge.

Upon further questioning, the passenger Mansuri said he is currently a student in France. He had visited Mumbai to meet his father. He later went to Ahmedabad to stay at his paternal uncle’s house for four days.

Secuity staffer Saheta requested a thorough investigation against Mansuri for possessing the cartridge without a license. An FIR has been filed against Mansuri at Airport Police Station under section 25 (1) (a) of the Arms Act. DeshGujarat
