Vishwamitri river’s level rises but no reason for worry for Vadodara untill there’s extremely heavy rainfall

Vadodara: The level of water in Vishwamitri river in Vadodara has gone up significantly since last evening and crossed 17 ft mark at 4 pm today, however there’s no reason to worry for citizens of this flood-prone city for now, as the the danger level is far away at 26 ft and flood level at 30 ft.

The river can reach flood level from here only if there’s extremely heavy rainfall of above 8 inches in Panchmahal district or/and Vadodara city or/and Vadodara district before this current level of Vishwamitri eases and if that conincides with extremely heavy rainfall in upstream areas of Dhadhar river and subsequent release of water from Deo dam in river Dhadhar because then it would block discharge of water from Vishwamitri beyond Vadodara city.

The water level at Ajwa dam also rose up to 212.15 ft post 4 pm from 211.90 ft at 6 am today. Increase in water level is attributed to fresh rains in the parts of Central Gujarat including the city and district of Vadodara and neighboring Panchmahal district. As per the official data, no part of Panchmahal and Vadodara districts has seen very heavy rainfall in past 48 hours.  Rise in Vishwamitri river and Ajwa dam’s water levels is impacted by rainfall in only these two districts.

At 9 pm on 24 September, before this latest round of rainfall, Vishwamitri river’s level was 10 ft, while Ajwa level was 211.30 ft. On 26 September at 2 6 am Vishwamitri was at 10.20 ft, while Ajwa was at 211.35 ft.

There’s no very heavy or extremely heavy rainfall forecast and no red or orange alert for Vadodara and Panchmahal districts as per IMD till 29 September. Yes, there’s yellow alert which may bring upto 4.54 inch rainfall in some area. DeshGujarat
