Polling underway for Vav Assembly by-election; 67.13% voter turnout till 5 pm

Vav: Voting for the Vav Assembly by-election is underway today. As of 5 pm, the voter turnout for the seat has been 67.13%, as stated by the Election Commission of India.

At 1 pm, the voter turnout stood at 39.12%. As of 11 am, a 24.39% voter turnout had been recorded over the four-hour period from 7 am to 11 am. The BJP has fielded Swarupji Thakor, while Congress has nominated Gulab Singh Rajput. Meanwhile, Mavji Patel, a BJP rebel, is running as an independent. The seat has been with Congress for the last two assembly elections, with a margin of thousands of votes.

At 9 am, the voter turnout was 14.25%. During the voting process, an incident of EVM malfunction was reported in Bakhri village of Vav around 9 am. The EVM malfunctioned after more than 140 votes had been cast but was promptly replaced. Voting resumed as usual once the machine was fixed.

A total of 10 candidates, including BJP, Congress, and independents, are contesting the Vav Assembly by-election. 3.10 lakh voters will cast their ballots today. Voting is taking place across 321 booths in 192 polling centers of the 07-Vav Assembly Constituency. There are 97 sensitive polling stations where webcasting cameras have been set up, along with a heavy police presence. In total, 1,500 security personnel have been deployed to ensure the smooth conduct of the election, including 4 DySPs, 8 PIs, and 30 PSIs.

Voting began at 7:00 am and will end at 6:00 pm. For this, 321 ballot units, 321 control units, and 321 VVPATs are being used. A total of 1,412 officials/employees are on duty at the polling stations.

There are 161,296 male voters, 149,478 female voters, and 1 third-gender voter, making a total of 310,775 voters in this assembly seat. The result of the Vav by-election will be announced after the counting on November 23, 2024, along with the results of the Maharashtra and Jharkhand State Assembly elections and several other assembly by-elections in various states.
