Ahmedabad: The city is witnessing a surge in vector-borne and waterborne diseases as the monsoon recedes. According to the Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC), 200 dengue cases were reported in the city between September 1 and September 13. Areas like Gomtipura and Behrampura have been particularly affected, while upscale localities such as Paldi, Navrangpura, and Ranip have also reported cases.

Besides dengue, other mosquito-borne and waterborne illnesses are on the rise. The AMC’s health department reported 75 cases of malaria and 7 cases of falciparum malaria during the same period. Additionally, 201 cases of jaundice, 180 cases of typhoid, and 120 cases of diarrhea and vomiting have been recorded. A single case of cholera was reported in the Vatva area of the city.

Preventive Measures for Citizens

Authorities have urged citizens to take precautionary measures to curb the outbreak:

• Mosquito Control: Avoid water accumulation near homes; regularly clean water tanks, coolers, and containers.

• Maintain Hygiene: Ensure personal hygiene and keep homes and surrounding areas clean.

• Boil Water Before Drinking: Especially during and after the monsoon season, drink only boiled or safe water.

• Seek Immediate Medical Care: Anyone showing symptoms such as fever, body pain, vomiting, or diarrhea should consult a doctor promptly and begin proper treatment.

The health department has also advised intensifying fogging and surveillance operations to prevent further spread of these diseases. DeshGujarat
