Ahmedabad, Friday: A major online fraud involving the delivery of gold coins purchased through Amazon has come to light, with multiple city residents losing a total of 36 gold coins worth ₹12.60 lakh. Instead of delivering the coins to the original buyers, the items were reportedly sent to other addresses. The matter is now under investigation by the Gayakwad Haveli Police.
The complaint was filed by Firoz Ramzanibhai Tatawala (Kakuwala), a 35-year-old service professional residing at 418, Old Vankarvas, Ismailpir’s Chawl, Ahmedabad. Firoz and his family have been Amazon Prime members for the past four years and had regularly received orders on time. On March 25, 2025, he saw an advertisement on the Amazon app from a seller named “Super Syllium Pedhi Vijay Jewellers,” offering a 5-gram, 24-carat gold coin for ₹35,000, against the market price of ₹45,000. Firoz purchased 10 coins worth ₹3.5 lakh using his Kotak Mahindra Bank credit card.
Despite receiving a confirmation invoice and order number, the coins were never delivered. The tracking ID showed the items had already been delivered on February 20, 2025—more than a month before the order was placed—and to a Bengaluru address instead of Ahmedabad. Multiple attempts to contact Amazon Customer Care for cancellation, delivery, or refund yielded no resolution.
Firoz’s father, Ramzanibhai Mehmudbhai Kakuwala, his wife Tayssara, and his friend Asfaq Harunbhai Dewlajivala faced similar issues after ordering gold coins from the same seller, resulting in collective losses of ₹12.60 lakh for 36 coins. Screenshots of emails and communications with Amazon were attached to the FIR.
The victims allege that they were defrauded through false tracking information and misleading responses from Amazon Customer Care. The complaint has been lodged against the responsible officers or employees of Amazon and the seller, whose billing address is listed as A/6, Old Market Yard Main Line, Uzha, Mehsana, Gujarat. The police have begun an investigation to trace the fraudsters and recover the lost assets.
PI C.V. Gosai of Gayakwad Haveli Police said the case is under investigation, and authorities are examining how the delivery addresses were manipulated to facilitate the fraud. DeshGujarat
