SMC Seizes Over 750 Kg of Suspicious Paneer During Food Safety Raid

Surat, November 10: Acting on specific information received on Monday, the Food Safety Department of the Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC), under the direct guidance of the Deputy Commissioner (Health and Hospital) and the Designated Health Officer, conducted a surprise inspection at Surabhi Dairy located in Somakanjini Wadi, Khatodarawadi, behind INS Hospital in Sorathia Compound, Surat.
The joint operation was carried out by Food Safety Officers of the Food Inspection Department and personnel from the Special Operations Group (SOG). During the inspection, officials found a suspicious quantity of paneer stored at the premises.
A sample of paneer was collected from the owner, Shaileshbhai Chhaganbhai Patel, and sent to a laboratory for analysis. Authorities said that further action will be taken under the provisions of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, once the laboratory report is received.
In addition, officials found 754.621 kilograms of cheese on the premises, valued at approximately ₹1,81,109, which was subsequently seized by the Food Department.
Officials stated that such inspections are part of ongoing efforts to curb the sale of substandard or adulterated food products in the city and ensure consumer safety.
