Phase-2 of Kharicut Canal Redevelopment Project gets AMC Nod

Ahmedabad: The Standing Committee of Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) on Thursday approved Phase-2 of the Kharicut Canal Redevelopment Project, covering the stretch from SP Ring Road to Naroda Mukti Dham and extending to Vinzol Vahela, Ghodasar, Vatva, Ropda Talav, and the Khari River.

The project, estimated at ₹979.26 crore plus GST, has been awarded to the joint venture of Konkan Railway Corporation Ltd. and Fuji Silvertech Concrete Pvt. Ltd. The contract was finalized at ₹829.92 crore plus GST, reflecting a 15.25% reduction from the original estimate of ₹1,061.43 crore.

Project Highlights:

  • – Construction of RCC box culverts for stormwater management along the canal, with roads built atop these structures.
  • – Scope includes excavation, concrete work, reinforcement, road-related infrastructure, street furniture, water and drainage lines, and street lighting.
  • – Covers approximately 22.415 km of the historic Kharicut Canal, with phased development across:
    • · SP Ring Road to Muthiya Drain up to Naroda Mukti Dham
    • · Vinzol Vahela to Ghodasar Aavkar Hall, Vatva village to SP Ring Road
    • · Vatva village to Ropda Talav and the Khari River

The redevelopment integrates open canal sections, RCC canal boxes, and stormwater culverts, aiming to enhance drainage, reduce waterlogging, and improve road connectivity across northern, eastern, and southern zones of Ahmedabad.
