Ahmedabad: Several private schools in Ahmedabad and surrounding areas received bomb threat emails this morning, triggering a major alert across the education sector and law enforcement agencies. The emails, sent by an unknown source, warned that a blast would occur around 1:10 pm.

Upon receiving the emails, school authorities immediately informed the police and, as a precaution, began sending students home in an orderly manner. Alarmed parents rushed to the schools to pick up their children.

The emails received by schools suggested that the blast would take place “from the school to Sabarmati Jail” and made reference to targets including Union Home Minister and Gandhinagar Lok Sabha MP Amit Shah, as well as jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi. The emails are linked to a Khalistan supporter, as they mention the killing of Khalistani leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar.

Zone-7 DCP Shivam Verma said, “Bomb threat messages were received at different schools in Ahmedabad city. Because of this, the city police have gone into full alert mode and police deployment has been arranged at all locations. Bomb disposal teams are carrying out checks, and coordination is ongoing with other agencies such as the AMC and the Fire Department. There is no need to panic. If anyone sees any suspicious object, please immediately call the police on 112 and bring it to their attention. So far, nothing suspicious has been found. Verification of the threat is still ongoing at all locations. FIR-related procedures are currently underway, and we are investigating whoever sent the email.”

Addressing the media, Jitu Vaghani, spokesperson and minister of the Gujarat government, said, “Several schools have received email threats about bomb blasts. I assure the parents that our police department is fully vigilant. All 10–15 schools that received threats are being checked by bomb squads and sniffer dog teams. As of now, nothing suspicious has been found. The checking is ongoing, and these schools have been shut as a precaution. Our police are vigilant, and the Crime Branch is probing where the emails originated, who sent them, and whether the threats were real or a hoax.”

Ahmedabad DEO issues advisory to schools after threat emails

Following reports of threat emails sent to schools, the Ahmedabad City District Education Officer has issued an official advisory stating, “It is informed that schools which have received threatening emails are instructed to immediately call 112 and inform the police, and also to report the matter in writing to the nearest police station. They are advised to remain in contact with the police and take necessary steps. Schools that have not received threatening emails are asked to take necessary action in a manner that does not spread any kind of fear.”

 

In response, Ahmedabad city police, the Crime Branch, and the Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) immediately reached the affected schools. Classrooms, playgrounds, and any suspicious items are being thoroughly inspected. Roads leading to the schools have been cordoned off, and traffic movement has been restricted as authorities carry out investigations.

Teams of education officers have also visited the schools to oversee the situation. Ahmedabad city DEO himself visited Maharaja Agrasen Vidyalaya.

Meanwhile, the Cyber Crime team is investigating the source of the emails and tracing the IP addresses to determine the sender’s location. It is learned that three different types of emails were received by schools. Two emails were sent from Hotmail, while one was sent from an Atomic Mail account. The cyber crime team is probing where the emails originated from and who sent them. Similar fake bomb threats have been reported in schools in Delhi and Bengaluru in the past. Authorities are investigating whether the emails are a hoax or part of a more serious plot.

The situation remains under control, and parents have been advised to cooperate with police and school authorities.
