AMC Seals Das Khaman Outlet in Ahmedabad for Poor Hygiene Conditions and Violations of Food Safety Norms

Ahmedabad, January 13, 2026: Ahead of the Uttarayan festival, the Food Department of the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has launched a special enforcement and surveillance drive to ensure the availability of safe and quality food for citizens.

As part of the campaign, AMC food safety teams on Tuesday collected samples of popular festival food items such as undhiyu, jalebi and other sweets from various locations across the city. The drive was conducted across multiple zones and wards, where food establishments selling high-demand Uttarayan delicacies were inspected on-site.

During the inspections, officials also used Rapid Food Testing Kits for preliminary checks. According to AMC officials, no artificial colouring or adulteration was detected during the rapid tests. However, samples have been sent to the Public Health Laboratory for detailed analysis as per standard procedure.

In addition to sampling, strict action was taken against unhygienic food practices. A food establishment named “Das Khaman” located in the Nikol ward was sealed on Tuesday due to poor hygiene conditions and violations of food safety norms.

The inspection drive covered food units in areas including Gota, Navrangpura, Maninagar, Kalupur, Amraiwadi, Naroda, Jodhpur, Shahibaug, Odhav and Indrapuri, among others. Both sweet shops and street food vendors were checked, as these items witness high consumption during the kite festival.

AMC officials stated that the special food safety campaign will continue during the festival period to safeguard public health and prevent the sale of adulterated or unsafe food. DeshGujarat
