Miscreants allegedly set over 10 fruit carts on fire in Rajkot

Rajkot: In a shocking case in the Astron Chowk area of the city, miscreants allegedly set fire to around 10–15 fruit carts late Sunday night, triggering major commotion in the locality. The incident has dealt a severe blow to small vendors, leaving many families devastated as their only source of livelihood was reduced to ashes.

In the fire, around 15 fruit carts were completely gutted. Preliminary estimates suggest losses exceeding Rs 25 lakh. In a tragic development, some stray dogs living nearby were also reportedly burnt alive. Fire brigade teams rushed to the spot and worked to bring the blaze under control.

Affected vendors expressed anguish, stating that they work day and night through all seasons — rainy monsoons and harsh winters — to earn a living. One vendor said he was present at the site until 12:30 am, and returned later only to find everything destroyed. Many vendors also revealed that they are already under heavy financial pressure, owing large sums to traders and middlemen.

In one case, a vendor reportedly had an outstanding investment of nearly Rs 6 lakh, raising concerns over how such debts will now be repaid.

Rajkot police reached the scene and launched an investigation into the incident. The incident has left small traders demanding strict action against those responsible for the act. DeshGujarat
