Movement of heavy & medium vehicles banned on Shastri Bridge till Jan 2027
February 09, 2026
Ahmedabad: The Ahmedabad City Police on Saturday extended, by another year, the order restricting the movement of heavy and medium goods vehicles as well as passenger vehicles on the Shastri Bridge over the Sabarmati River, which links Vishala Circle on the western bank with Pirana Circle on the eastern side.
Following findings by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) that revealed serious deterioration in the bridge’s bearing structures and pedestals, the Police Commissioner had initially imposed traffic restrictions through a notification dated August 25, 2025, which remained in effect until February 8, 2026.
A fresh notification issued on February 7, 2026, has now extended these restrictions until January 7, 2027, as repair work on the bridge continues.
Alternate routes
– Commuters travelling from Jashodanagar and National Expressway-1 (NE-1) can turn right at Pirana Junction, proceed toward the Pirana dump yard, continue to Behrampura Crossroads, cross Ambedkar Bridge to reach Anjali Crossroads, and then head toward Vishala.
– Those coming from Sarkhej-Juhapura can travel to Anjali Crossroads, turn right to cross Ambedkar Bridge, reach Behrampura Crossroads, proceed to the Pirana dump yard, and finally reach Pirana Junction.
The extended restriction is expected to remain in force until the bridge repairs are fully completed.
