Textiles Export Facilitation Centre to Come Up in Surat and Five Other Cities

Surat: The country’s leading man-made fabric hub, Surat, has been selected as one of six cities where the Textiles Export Facilitation Centre (TEFC) will be established by the Textiles Committee under the Union Ministry of Textiles.

Similar centres will also be set up in Karur (Tamil Nadu), Ichalkaranji (Maharashtra), Jaipur (Rajasthan), Varanasi (Uttar Pradesh), and Ludhiana (Punjab). According to a trade notice issued on February 9, 2026, the TEFCs will be launched on a pilot basis across key textile clusters to enhance the export competitiveness of both existing and emerging exporters. In Surat, the facility will primarily cater to technical textiles and man-made fibre (MMF) products, reflecting the city’s position as one of India’s largest MMF textile hubs.

Operating from the Textiles Committee office, the centre will provide a wide range of export-oriented services, including quality assessment, export certification, laboratory testing, ISO consultancy, exporter training and capacity building, support in HS classification, preparation of export strategies, updates on tariff structures, guidance on technical and non-technical compliance across countries, and awareness of government schemes and emerging global markets.

This initiative aims to enable MSMEs, weavers, and entrepreneurs to access new markets, enhance competitiveness, and contribute to sustained growth in India’s textile exports.

Ashok Jirawala, vice-president of the Southern Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SGCCI), said Surat currently produces nearly 60 million metres of fabric daily. With dedicated facilitation support and improved export services, production is projected to rise to 100–120 million metres per day within five years, significantly strengthening the weaving sector.
