Over 22,000 Motorists Fined in Week-Long Traffic Drive in Ahmedabad

Ahmedabad: In an effort to improve traffic discipline and reduce road accidents in the city, the Traffic Police carried out a special enforcement drive over the past week, during which 22,823 motorists were penalised for violating traffic rules. The police collected fines amounting to Rs 1.47 crore and detained 232 vehicles during the operation.
The special drive, launched on February 25, targeted violations such as drunk driving, carrying passengers beyond permitted limits, driving on the wrong side, vehicles without number plates, use of black films, riding without helmets, illegal LED lights and haphazard parking on roads.
Officials said nearly 50% of the cases were related to riding without helmets. During the drive, police booked 10,363 riders for not wearing helmets and collected Rs 52.09 lakh in fines. Seven vehicles were detained after their riders refused to pay the e-memo.
The drive also saw action against 8,311 cases of illegal parking, with fines totalling Rs 48.33 lakh. In addition, 1,844 motorists were penalised for driving on the wrong side, resulting in fines of Rs 35.15 lakh.
Police also registered 73 cases of drunk driving, detaining 32 vehicles, while 488 cases were booked for carrying excess passengers. Action was also taken against 1,204 vehicles without number plates, 515 vehicles with black films, and 25 vehicles fitted with illegal LED lights.
According to officials, the traffic enforcement drive will continue until March 10 as part of efforts to strengthen road safety and ensure stricter compliance with traffic rules in the city. DeshGujarat
