Hoax Bomb Threats Trigger Security Checks at Passport Offices, University, Post Offices Across Gujarat
March 10, 2026
Surat: For the second consecutive day, several government offices, passport offices, post offices and a university in Gujarat received hoax bomb threat emails, prompting large-scale security checks and evacuation of buildings across multiple cities.
Parul University in Vadodara was among the first to receive the threat. Following the email warning about explosives on the campus, police, bomb disposal squad, dog squad, Local Crime Branch (LCB) and SOG teams rushed to the spot. Students and staff were evacuated and the entire campus was searched. Officials said more than 65,000 students from 29 Indian states and over 75 countries study at the university, leading to heavy congestion on the Vadodara–Waghodia Road during the evacuation.
In Surat, the main passport office in the Piplod area also received a threatening email early in the morning. Authorities immediately cleared the building and began a thorough inspection. Teams from Umra police station, the bomb disposal squad and the dog squad carried out checks, while the cyber crime unit started tracing the sender as the email was written in both Gujarati and English.
In Bhavnagar, the passport section located inside the Head Post Office received a similar threat, while in Junagadh, the post office in the Gandhigram area was again targeted with a bomb threat email, triggering security checks.
In Rajkot, both the passport office and the post office received a warning claiming that a blast would take place around 12:15 pm. The offices were evacuated and teams from the Crime Branch, SOG, A-Division police and the bomb detection squad conducted searches.
Police also confirmed that the passport office in Ahmedabad received a threat email, after which security teams were sent to the location and checking operations were initiated.
Officials said the emails appear to be hoax threats, but security agencies carried out full inspections at all locations as a precaution. Cyber crime teams have begun technical analysis to identify the source of the emails, and further investigation is underway.
Notably, similar hoax bomb threats were also received a day earlier at the Gujarat High Court on SG Highway, the Ahmedabad Rural Court in Navrangpura, and the Dahod District Court, following which security checks were carried out at all locations. DeshGujarat
