Ahmedabad: A popular dining spot in Navrangpura has come under fire after a customer allegedly found a cockroach in a meal served to his family. The incident, which occurred at 1944 The Hocco Kitchen, has sparked outrage after it was revealed that a one-year-old child had already consumed part of the contaminated food.
The customer, Varun Doshi, reported that he had ordered a bowl of dal khichdi priced at ₹479. While feeding his infant son, he was horrified to find a cockroach inside the dish. Doshi immediately alerted the restaurant staff and documented the hygiene breach through photos and videos, which were later shared on social media as evidence.
Following an online complaint, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) Food Department took swift action. Dr. Tejas Shah, head of the department, confirmed that officials inspected the premises and imposed a ₹10,000 penalty on the establishment.
The restaurant’s Assistant Manager, Keshavbhai, acknowledged the lapse, stating that they are currently investigating where the error occurred and noted that the corporation’s team had already visited the site.
Despite the fine, the affected family and local patrons are demanding stricter consequences. Citing serious risks to public health, Doshi has called for the cancellation of the restaurant’s license, questioning how such a well-known brand could maintain such poor hygiene standards. DeshGujarat
