Congress Fields Muslim Candidate in Paldi; BJP MLA Hits Back
April 06, 2026
Ahmedabad: Politics in Ahmedabad has intensified after the Congress announced its candidates for the Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) elections, fielding a minority candidate from the Paldi ward. The party has nominated Fahejbano Mohammad Farooq Sheikh, a move that has sparked political reactions.
BJP MLA from Ellisbridge, Amit Shah, reacted strongly to the Congress decision on social media. In a Facebook post, he wrote, “Wow, Congress, wow, a minority candidate in Paldi. Ashant Dhara will be strictly implemented, and with full force.”
The Paldi area has long been associated with controversies surrounding the implementation of the Ashant Dhara provisions.
Paldi falls under a sensitive Disturbed Areas Act zone, which has previously witnessed heated exchanges between the Congress and the BJP, including during earlier Assembly sessions.
Political observers believe the Congress may have fielded the candidate as part of a broader electoral strategy. The BJP, meanwhile, has intensified its attack, raising concerns over the strict enforcement of the Disturbed Areas Act in the area.
With elections approaching, it remains to be seen how significantly this issue will influence voter sentiment in the coming days and which party stands to gain politically. DeshGujarat
