Gujarat ATS Busts Pakistan-Linked Drug Smuggling Racket; ₹25 Crore Meth Seized

Ahmedabad: The Gujarat Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS), in coordination with Rajasthan ATS, seized approximately 5 kg of methamphetamine (meth) worth around ₹25 crore and arrested two persons from Rajasthan.

The accused, Shankarram Rameshram and Salman Lalakhan, both residents of Barmer district in Rajasthan, were intercepted on April 6, 2026, during a joint naka-bandi operation on National Highway 68 connecting Jaisalmer (Rajasthan) to Banaskantha (Gujarat).

According to officials, Gujarat ATS Police Inspector J.M. Patel had received specific intelligence that the duo was transporting a consignment of methamphetamine sourced via a Pakistani smuggler from the international border area. The consignment was allegedly being brought for delivery to their associates.

Acting on the input, a joint operation was launched, and coordinated surveillance and patrolling were carried out. During vehicle checking on Monday evening, a suspicious Eeco car was stopped. Upon inspection, the two accused were found inside, and a yellow bag containing five transparent packets of a suspected narcotic substance was recovered. Preliminary verification confirmed the substance to be methamphetamine.

Following the seizure, a case has been registered at Sadar Barmer Police Station in Rajasthan under relevant sections of the NDPS Act, including Sections 8, 21, 22, 23, 25, 28 and 29. Further legal proceedings are underway.

During preliminary interrogation, the accused revealed that the consignment had been smuggled from Pakistan by an individual identified as Masaat, a resident of the Tharparkar region, and was dropped in Barmer district, from where they collected it.

Police also recovered crucial digital evidence from the mobile phones of the accused, including WhatsApp chats, call records, and videos, which are expected to provide leads on the broader interstate and international drug trafficking network. DeshGujarat
