NID Ahmedabad Seeks ₹13.91 Lakh from Former Director Over Residence Expenses
April 08, 2026
Ahmedabad: The National Institute of Design (NID) has asked its former director, Praveen Nahar, to pay ₹13.91 lakh for expenses linked to his official residence during his tenure from June 2019 to October 2024. The amount includes ₹12.89 lakh for sweeping and cleaning services and ₹1.02 lakh towards electricity charges.
The institute has termed the facility as “beyond entitlement” for the director’s post. The demand was reportedly communicated through two emails sent around four months ago by Chief Administrative Officer P. S. Pradeep, seeking immediate payment with the director’s approval.
Nahar, who resigned in the latter half of 2025 and later joined IIT Gandhinagar as a professor of design, said he was taken aback by the demand. He stated that he has sought clarification on the rules governing such entitlements and the basis of the recovery. DeshGujarat
