The United Kingdom will open a Deputy High Commission office in Gujarat’s financial capital Ahmedabad soon, a British Minister said here today.
“The United Kingdom will open a deputy high commission in Ahmedabad very soon and we will become the first country to start a diplomatic centre in Gujarat,” British Minister of State for Trade and Investment Lord Livingston told reporters.
This will be the UK’s fourth Deputy high commission office in the country after Mumbai, Kolkata and Chennai.
Livingston added that it would start functioning in next few weeks and the process to that effect has already been initiated.
He was talking to the media on the eve of the Vibrant Gujarat Global Investors Summit, in which 60 British companies and around 100 delegates from the UK, including Vodafone’s CEO Vittorio Collao, will take part.
British High Commissioner to India James Bevan said the plan to establish the deputy high commission in Ahmedabad has been finalised, however its strength is yet to be decided.
According to a statement from the UK High Commission, a new British High Commission will be opened in Ahmedabad in 2015 “to improve the ground links with the state of Gujarat”.
