Draft delimitation of Ahmedabad, Rajkot Municipal Corporation announced

As per a new delimitation announced today by state election commission, the total number of wards in Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation is down from 68 to 48. Each ward will have 4 seats, two will be reserved for woman. Thus there will be total 192 seats.

As per year 2011 census the city has 55,77,940 population. Each ward will have average population of 1,16,207. 20 seats are to be reserved for scheduled caste(SC), of which 10 are to be reserved for women. 19 seats are reserved for backward class of which 9 shall be for women.

Responses of people are invited for ten days after announcement of new delimitation, after which the final report will be handed over to state election commission by district collector. The final delimitation with all corrections and changes will be announced by the end of June.

It should be noted the the election for Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation is going to be held most probably in October 2015. While in previous election each ward had 3 seats, this time each ward will have 4 seats. 50% reservation for women is another new thing.

The state election commission has also announced delimitation for Rajkot Municipal Corporation with 18 wards and 72 Councillors. Rajkot hs populatio of 13,46,192. Each ward will have average 74,788 people. 5 seats ar reserved for SC of which 2 will be reserved for women.

New delimitation of Bhavnagar is likely to be announced in couple of days. Jamnagar will take another week. Vadodara and Surat delimitations are already announced. Delimitation of 40 municipalities have been announced earlier.
