E-voting option likely in Municipal Corporation elections in Gujarat

Election Commission in Gujarat has taken a decision to offer e-voting option to voters in upcoming Municipal Corporation elections of Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Surat, Rajkot, Bhavnagar and Jamnagar across all wards, it is learnt. However the state election commission will not grant e-voting facility to voters in taluka panchayat, district panchayat and municipality polls.
As a pilot project, the e-voting option was first given in year 2010 Municipal Corporation polls in selected wards. Same facility was also given to voters of Gandhinagar Municipal Corporation in year 2011. This time e-voting will be expanded across all wards it is learnt. Registration for e-voting will be mandatory ahead of the elections.
