Rajkot

A private school in Rajkot city has terminated the services of a teacher for including two controversial questions related to the ongoing Patel or Patidar agitation in Gujarat in the question paper of general knowledge (GK) for an internal test of class eight recently, the trustee of the educational institution said today.

The school has not declared the name of a teacher who included Patidar agitation related questions to question paper, however it is learnt that the teacher was Lina Vachchani and she belongs to Patidar community.

In the GK question paper of the Indraprastha Nagar branch of Modi School, the two questions asked were – who had committed suicide for the Patidar agitation and why was the agitation against the government going on.

‘We have terminated services of the teacher who had set the paper for the October 6 GK test in the best interest of the organization and its pupils,’ the trustee of the school management board Rashmikant Modi said today.

The activists of the Patidar agitation including its main face Hardik Patel are at the loggerheads with the state government. The seek Patidar community to get ‘Other Backward Class(OBC)’ status, so that the members of community can avail reservation in government jobs and education institutes. The government on the other hand says that such inclusion is possible only through proper process by OBC commission. The commission interestingly had denied OBC status to Patels in year 1999 after finding the community well educated, with good financial, social and political status.

A 30 year old Patidar youth Umesh Patel had committed suicide inside his factory last in Vavadi on the outskirts of the city recently. He was said to have left a suicide not claiming that he was ending his life for the cause of the agitation.
The violence after the arrest of Hardik on August 25 has claimed 10 lives.
