DeshGujarat reports
Shankarsinh vadhela, Gujarat’s ex chief minister and union textile minister today marched from Kohrab Ashram to Sabarmati Gandhi ashram with his supporters in Ahmedbad to protest against Gujarat government’s new policy to release liquor prohibition from sez areas to attract investment.
Politicaly Gujarat state was established in 1960 and since then there is a prohibition policy in whole state. Needy people and foreign guests are given permits but other than them nobody can legally consume liquor in Gujarat.
Recently Gujarat government gave discounts in prohibition policy and discounted, different policy of prohibition was announced for SEZ areas. Congress had immediately declared it’s strong protest against this decision and agitation was announced. But after the announcement Congress party did not do anything in this regard for almost three weeks. May be Congress party in Gujarat was busy welcoming Sonia Gandhi who visited the state for a rally.
Lately in the last week of the month Shankarsinh Vaghela announced his march from Kochrab Ashram to Sabarmati Gandhi Ashram in Ahmedbad with his supporters against the state government’s decision. Shankarsinh is now sitting on fast outside the Gandhi ashram for 52 hours.
Shankarsinh is known for jam packed rally which can block the roads and which can impress the media. He showed his strength once upon a time in Ramlila ground (near Subhash Bridge) when he formed his own party RJP and also at a time when he organized his pet Shaktidal’s rally. But today, there were not as much people in this leader’s rally. At one spot rally could be witnessed for five to six minutes only. This was its length. Vehicles could easily pass aside the rally in a same lane of the road. When he sat at a footpath outside the Kochrab ashram, less than 600 people were there with him.
Releasing discounts in liquor prohibition policy for SEZ areas is controversial decision by Gujarat government and when Shankarsinh announced an agitation, section of people who supports prohibition were happy, but Shankarsinh’s rally today, however was not as impressive as it should be as huge strength of people could not be seen and zeal of fighting against a government was found missing.

Will Narendra Modi reverse his decision because of shankarsinh bapu’s march and fast ? I do not think so.
I have a big question: Is this a result oriented program Vaghelaji ?

Shri Shankarsingh,
Kindly note that your gimmicks will not work now. If this is for getting the Chief Ministership back, forget about it. We - people of Gujarat - has already reserved the votes for Shri Narendrabhai Modi for next 20 years. So, please stop these “nautanki”, it will not be helpful to you or Congress.
Take care and enjoy the retired life !!

Some observations on Shankarsinh’s rally and fast:
-Shankarsinh does not like Modhvadiya so modhvadiya was aparted from this program and was said to sit on a fast at Porbandar’s Kirti mandir.
-Gujarat state congress president Bharatsinh solanki did not join rally or fast on the first day. This has produced some questions regarding unity and ego clashes among Gujarat Congress leasers.
-Muslims could not join the rally because of their festival of Mohram(taajiyaa julus).
-When Narendrabhai Modi sat on the fast in relation with Narmada issue, it was a national issue at that time and so he got amazing coveragr nationaly, Shankarsinh vaghela has raised liquor prohibition issue which has no place in national media. Even Gujarat based media has published Shankarsinh’s story marginaly. Media initialy took interest in this rally but media found less people in rally than what was expected and interest was lower down.

Prohibition on liquor is welcome policy in Gujarat. For merely some investment and job creation; Gujarat should not accept unethical decisions like releasing prohibition in SEZ. I support Narendra Modi, and I like him but not on this issue.
I do not support Shankarsinh too because his fast program is political, but I support the issue that releasing prohibition is not a welcome step. Narendra Modi has done this thing wrong. Modi is in wrong copany of businessmen and non Gujarati IAS officers. He should spend more time with common ladies, farmers and people to test the right mood.

Gujarat samachar said Shankarsinh’s rally had 5000 people
Shanarsinh has claimed in his speech that his rally had 10000 people
So highest may be 10000
Shankarsinh’s earlier Shakti dal rally had enjoyed near 1 lakh people

I am for it, if Shankarsinh Vaghela and cronies could go to every home in Gujarat and effectively remove ‘daaru’ wherever they find securing promises from homeowners that they will not bring ‘daaru’ again in their homes.

The whole liquor problem is related to two major issues. One is financial and second is moral and social.People who are crying for lifting of prohibition may get some financial advantages, otherwise there is no point for immediate lifting of prohibition. Are we considering, the kind of society we have here. Are women and childrens ready to see people drinking publicly? Are we ready for road-mishap which will increase?Or are we ready to increase our expenditure on de-addiction programs.
I think there is need for big survey.
