Ahmedabad, 9 January 2013
The Gujarat government has amended ‘Tukda dharo’. With the new amendment in effect, any farmer in Gujarat will be able to buy/sell Tukda land anywhere in the state.
According to state Revenue minister Anandiben Patel, Mumbai Tukda Dharo was preventing separation of agricultural land. When Gujarat came into existence in 1960, this law was implemented here too. In Jiryat land, the size of tukda land was fixed at 2 acres while in Bagayat/Kyari land it was fixed as less than 0-20 guntha piece of land.
According to Patel, the law was creating problems for farmers and therefore it has been amended. Thanks to this any farmer will be able to buy Tukda land anywhere in the state. And wherever there’s no Tukda land available, he will not have to take permission of block partition.
