Jamnagar Municipal Corporation(JMC) has made proposal to state government to fill Lakhota lake with Narmada water. For last two years, the city has witnessed only 60% of average monsoon rain. As the level of water in Lakhota lake is down, the Standing Committee Chairman of JMC in his meeting with guardian minister Babubhai Bokhiria proposed the government that Narmada water should be supplied to fill Lakhota lake.
The lake was built by Jam Ranmal(second) during 1840-1842 for famine relief. It is filled with water through a 11 km long canal. The lake is divided in three parts. The middle part is occupied by Lakhota kotho and Ghadiali well. 5 lakh sqm area lake could be filled through supply of Narmada water by connecting Narmada canal to Lalpur bypass. Locals believe, such step could lift groundwater level up.
