Massive blast at UPL5 plant of Jhagadia heard in over 10 km radius, earthquake like shake felt

Bharuch: A massive blast and fire is reported from privately owned UPL5 industrial plant. UPL has five plants in Gujarat. Jhagadia plant for speciality chemicals is one of them. The blast according to locals was heard post 1 am and it was so massive that it was heard across 10-12 km radius at the places including Jhagadia, Panoli and Ankleshwar. The blast created earthquake like shaking, said locals. Primary reports suggest that two persons were injured in this incident of blast and fire. However official word is awaited on this. People came out of their homes in Dadheda village near the plant after windows and doors were shaken by the blast.
Meanwhile the company has in its statement today morning on Twitter handle said: Unfortunately a serious fire broke out in a plant in shutdown condition in the early hours of this morning at our Jagadia unit in Gujarat. Our emergency response team and local fire brigade have already brought the fire under control.21 people received treatment at the local hospital and 13 are already discharged with minor treatment. There is no fatality reported.We thank the local administration, neighbouring industries and fire brigade for their timely support.
The company’s stock price is down today following the incident of fire which is rare for this well performing firm.
