Gujarat connects 99.97% of Gram Panchayats with Optical Fiber
July 01, 2022
Gandhinagar: In keeping with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of Digital India, Gujarat has connected 99.97 per cent of gram panchayats with optical fibre. Under the BharatNet project, underground cables spread across more than 35,000 kms have been laid in the state.
Due to this connectivity, all government services across Gujarat, including rural areas, will be available to citizens at home. It is a matter of pride for Gujarat that at present, Bharatnet Phase-2 is being implemented in 9 states of the country with the ‘state led’ model.
Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel said, ‘Gujarat has started various digital projects to realize the mantra of ‘Jahan Manav, Waha Suvidha’. The facility of optical fiber connectivity has reached almost all the Gram Panchayats of the state. With this, people living in remote rural areas will also be able to avail benefits of various government services easily. We are ensuring that every citizen of the state has digital access to government services.’
Digital Seva Setu program was started in the year 2020 to provide citizen-oriented government facilities to the people in the last queue at their doorstep. With optical fiber connectivity reaching villages, this program will receive massive boost. Today, under this program about 312 services of the state government’s 11 departments are available online through more than 14,000 Gram panchayats and more than 70 lakh applications have been resolved so far.
In the transport sector too, a single app is being developed to avail every transport related government service. In the near future, a mobile application called m-Parivahan will be launched in collaboration with NIC that will make all the services related to transport sector easier and speedier. About 16 services including vehicle and license related services will be available at your fingertips through this application. People will also be able to fill out and submit applications easily through this app.
The services available in this app will include issuance of duplicate RC Book, change of address in RC Book, addition infomation about vehicle loan or removing it, mobile number update, issuing NOC for vehicles moving to other states, license renewal, change of address in license, license replacement, online payment of challans issued by RTO among other services.
