Sabarmati: The Gujarat government and the Riverfront Development Corporation held roadshows in Dubai and Abu Dhabi in Middle Eastern nation United Arab Emirates to raise funds from the sale of 49 plots of Sabarmati riverfront and to develop the riverfront as a more effective recreational destination.

It is learnt that three of Dubai’s largest developer groups have shown interest in plots on the riverfront. Representatives of this developer group will visit the riverfront in the coming days.

State Government Chief Secretary Ashwini Kumar, Riverfront Development Corporation Chairman Keshav Verma, Mun. Commissioner M. Thennarson, I. K. Patel and Sushan Bhatt held meetings with 10 developers in Dubai and Abu Dhabi. In which a request was made for the sale of a riverfront plot. The big developers were shown around 7 to 8 suitable plots, apart from 40 smaller plots. All aspects were covered in a 7 minute video during the presentation by Gujarat officials.

T project cost of developing the riverfront has to be recovered by selling 49 plots in the 22 km long riverfront. For the first time in 2014, Riverfront Company had planned to sell a few plots. However, the process reamained unsuccessful. Then in 2017, the riverfront company invited companies showing interest for five plots but at that time the government postponed the decision to sell the plots as the builders did not show interest due to the implementation of GST and RERA. Later, no attempts were made to sell the plot after Covid-19 situation worldwide.

For the first time, Riverfront company officials recently went to Dubai to sell plots. But the biggest question is whether the plots will be sold, because out of 49 riverfront plots there are only 3 plots which are 25 thousand to 70 thousand square meters. A meeting has been held with Shobha, Emmar and Loolo Group in Dubai for the plots. But these three groups require very large plots to undertake any project. All the riverfront plots are of very short length and width. The three plots which are 25 thousand to 70 thousand square meters are near Vallabhasadan, NID and Dadhichi Bridge. However, plots near Dadhichi Bridge have also been divided. If any of this group is interested then relaxation will be given. DeshGujarat
