Religious fervor grips Gujarat as people celebrate Ram Mandir consecration

Ahmedabad: Alongside the rest of the nation, the state of Gujarat is fully immersed in religious fervor as the consecration ceremony of the new Ram temple in Ayodhya unfolds. Several Shobha Yatras, Bhandaras, and religious gatherings are occurring across the state to commemorate the historic Pran Pratishta Mahotsav.

The Pran Pratishta ceremony in Ayodhya, led by Prime Minister Modi, was virtually witnessed by Gujarat CM and ruling BJP leaders in the Shilaj area of Ahmedabad.

Numerous residential societies, trusts, and temples have organized devotional songs (bhajans), free meals (bhandara), recitations of Ram Katha, and other religious events. Processions, known as ‘Shoba Yatras,’ have been conducted in various towns and cities across districts, including Ahmedabad, Surat, Vadodara, Mehsana, Dahod, Gandhinagar, Bhavnagar, Bharuch, Gir Somnath, and Kutch.

A Kalash Yatra procession held on Sunday in the Vastral area of Ahmedabad saw the participation of thousands of people, and visuals from the procession have been widely shared.

In Surat, the Department of Hindu Studies at Veer Narmad South Gujarat University celebrated ‘Shriramotsav’ from January 16 to January 22, 2024. As part of the celebration, renowned Gujarati folk artist Geetaben Rabari, known as ‘Kachchi Koyal,’ performed on January 21. Today, students organized a Ram Rath Yatra, drawing participation from around 15,000 people.

Devotees throughout the state displayed Kesariya flags on their offices and homes and lit lamps to mark the occasion. Various replicas of the Ram Mandir and selfie points were set up to commemorate this auspicious occasion.
