Ahmedabad: The body of an eighteen-year-old student was found near Ghodasar Lake in the Isanpur area of the city on Friday. It has now come to light that the student died due to an overdose of a drug injection.
The deceased, identified as Prince Sharma, was allegedly administered a 3ml dose of Midazolam and died within minutes, foaming at the mouth. Following a complaint filed by his mother, the police arrested a compounder of a private hospital. The accused was apprehended from Rajasthan, and a case of culpable homicide has been registered against him.
Midazolam is a short-acting hypnotic-sedative drug with anxiolytic, muscle relaxant, anticonvulsant, and amnesic properties. It produces a calming effect on the brain and nerves, helping to promote relaxation during surgery or medical procedures.
Prince Sharma, originally from Rajasthan, was residing in Vatva and pursuing a B.Com degree at Monarch University, Dehgam. He often traveled to college with his friend Tarun. On the morning of the incident, instead of going to college, Prince and Tarun went to meet their friend Jaideep Suthar near Ghodasar Lake. Jaideep, a male nurse at a private hospital, allegedly stole sedative injections like Midazolam from the hospital and supplied them to drug addicts for money.
On that day, Jaideep reportedly showed Prince a vial of Midazolam and encouraged him to try it, saying, “Take this once; you’ll enjoy it.” When Prince agreed, Jaideep administered a 3ml dose via injection. Shortly after, Prince became severely intoxicated, collapsed, and started foaming at the mouth. A terrified Tarun watched as Jaideep reassured him, claiming that Prince would regain consciousness in a few hours before leaving the scene, supposedly to go shopping.
Panicked, Tarun informed another friend and alerted Prince’s parents, who rushed to the spot. Tragically, Prince passed away before medical assistance could be provided.
The victim’s mother, Anjuben Sharma, filed a complaint against Jaideep at Isanpur Police Station. The police have arrested Jaideep in Rajasthan and launched an investigation. Prince’s family has alleged that Jaideep had previously extorted money from Prince and supplied him with sedatives on two prior occasions. Authorities are now investigating how many youths Jaideep may have influenced and the extent of his involvement in promoting drug abuse among young people. DeshGujarat
