Narmada canal construction 91.76 percent complete, total completion by 2025: Minister

Gandhinagar: In response to a question asked by a member at the Assembly House, Minister Shri Rishikesh Patel said that as a result of Narmada Yojana started in Gujarat with the inspiration of Prime Minister Shri Narendrabhai Modi, Narmada has reached even inaccessible areas like Kutch.

Minister Patel added that under the Narmada scheme, a total length of 69,497.41 km of canals is planned to be constructed in the state. Out of which 63,773 km long canal construction work has been completed. It means, 91.76 percent construction of Narmada Canal has been completed, while the remaining work will be completed by 2025 and water will be delivered to every corner of the state.

The minister added that on As on 31/12/2023, the work of the main canal under the Narmada scheme is 100 percent complete and the work of the branch canal is 99.98 percent complete. Besides this, 96 percent of Vishakha Canal, 93 percent of Prashakha Canal and 90 percent of Praprashakha Canal have been completed.

He further said that the construction of 5,724 km Narmada canal is pending in the state, out of which 724 km canal construction is not to be done due to various reasons like industrialization. Apart from this, the remaining 5,000 km of canal construction in Surendranagar, Morbi, Ahmedabad, Bhavnagar, Botad, Kutch, Mehsana and Patan districts will be completed promptly. Among the total projects of 85.46 MW in small hydropower stations, As on 31.12.2023, 63.80 MW works have been completed, he added. DeshGujarat
