Tweeples school I.N.D.I alliance leaders over remarks on Gujarat drugs seizures
March 02, 2024
Gandhinagar: Thanks to the vigilant Indian Navy, Narcotics Control Bureau, and Gujarat Police, a major haul of narcotics was captured before it could reach Indian shore. NCB chief in his press conference clearly stated that over 3100 kg narcotics could land on any part of the Indian coast and it can’t be concluded it was coming to Gujarat coast only. As the BJP is in power in Gujarat, the political opponents in other States have started targeting Gujarat over the recovery of huge consignments of narcotics here. Prominent among them are I.N.D.I alliance Shiv Sena (Uddhav Thackeray) and DMK. The tweeples however schooled such politicians effectively.
The tweeple strongly reacted to the official spokesperson of the Tamil Nadu-based Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) after he tried to malign the state of Gujarat by calling it the gateway to drugs.
With several cases in which narcotics had been caught by the security forces in Gujarat, Saravanan Annadurai, the spokesperson of DMK, posted on X (formerly Twitter), “Do you know that Gujarat is the gateway for all these drugs.
How many thousand crores of drugs have been seized?
Imagine how many thousand crores of drugs had gone undetected? Please bring it to the attention of the PM”

The BJP State Treasurer of Tamil Nadu, S R Sekhar rebutted the DMK leader and stated “Dear Saravanan, Small Correction. The news should be interpreted in this way: “Gujarat is Vigilant in capturing the drugs and Tamilnadu is dormant and supporting the Drug mafia.”
However, Twitter users were quick to fact-check the DMK leader, as one stated that “Dude, keyword for you is “Seized”. That means its not a gateway for drugs, its a firewall”

Several Twitter users also schooled the DMK leader about the role of Gujarat’s location in the purview of drug smuggling, as it is the first border state close to the ‘golden crescent’ area that includes Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Iran—a hub of illicit opium production. Due to the close proximity of Gujarat with these countries, the movement of drugs off its coast is more.
One user wrote, “Do you know why? Because Gujarat waters is closer to Pakistan”

Another one, while taking a dig at the DMK leader, sarcastically wrote, “That nasty Gujarat coast line is at it again guys…stupid geography. How dare the tectonic plates behave like this.”

While another one commented that “DMK mandus, Gujarat is a critical port close to Middle East. Question is who is sending it via Gujarat and which party had a drug lord as its member till last week.”

One user posted, “Why are you blabbering? A port near golden crescent is vulnerable to drug import. The fact that so many seizures have been made shows Modi commitment to root out drugs. But to allow a drug cartel lead to get closer to the CM, give a party post and medalled by DGP … vera level”

One user wrote, “They have been repeatedly caught in Gujarat means they are more vigilant. Shall we say Tamilnadu is not that vigilant and allowed them to reach even small villages without any issues?”
One Twitter user suggested that the ruling Tamil Nadu government should not blame others for their failure to control drugs in the state and wrote “So better ask your state govts to be proactive in tackling to capture and seize the drugs entering TN, instead of pointing out a Govt that is doing its job and actually making sure that these seized drugs don’t reach any of your borders. If the drugs have reached TN, then we can assume that TN govt is totally incapable of stopping the drug and they are blaming others for their failures.”

Another user posted, “Why assume “Gone undetected”? Why not assume that its bcz of Gujarat police high alertness, that the Drugs are getting caught. How many times u have seen such drugs getting caught in TN?, which concludes the free movement of drugs into TN”

A lot of reactions on Twitter suggested that attempts are being made to malign the image of Gujarat, as it is the home state of PM Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah, while the security forces of Gujarat are actively engaging in hampering the drug menace.
Shiv Sena (Uddhav) MP, Sanjay Raut alleged that drugs are entering Gujarat from Afghanistan and are then being smuggled both domestically and internationally because drug dealers believe Gujarat provides a convenient operational base.
Rebuking Raut’s statement the Gujarat Minister of State for Home Harsh Sanghavi said that state police apprehended numerous drug dealers from Maharashtra during the tenure of the Congress and the Shiv Sena. Gujarat police has effectively curtailed the inflow of drugs, not just into India, but globally, and is on the right track.
Another Shiv Sena leader, Priyanka Chaturvedi, made an attempt to malign Gujarat by saying, “Gujarat seems to have become the soft spot to let drugs enter India and leading a demographic dividend towards a disaster. Why is the central government not coming down heavy on the state government? Oh wait, double engine.”
However, she was also rebutted by the Twitterati, as one user replied to her saying, “If a thief steals Priyanka’s purse in Mumbai and he runs towards Delhi in a car but gets caught by Gujarat police in their state, she will blame the Gujarat police. Very high IQ politician.”

Another user commented, “There is uncontrolled hate for Gujratis online for their prosperity and congress eco system using anti gujrat hate as proxy for modi hate . Honestly which state has highest addiction levels . Utter propaganda. Next time gujrat police should let drugs pass to other states”
