Unseasonal rains in parts of Gujarat today

Kutch: Rainfall occurred at isolated places in the state today, with the Kutch district receiving up to 1.3 inches of rain in just 2 hours. Anjar in Kutch received 1.3 inches of rain between 6 am to 8 am, while Gandhidham and Mundra also experienced some light rain.

Between 6 am and 4 pm today, only two talukas, Anjar in Kutch and Dhanera in Banaskantha, received more than an inch of rain. The districts that experienced unseasonal rain include Kutch, Banaskantha, Sabarkantha, Devbhumi Dwarka, Mehsana, Patan, Rajkot, Gandhinagar, Botad, and Jamnagar.

In Rajkot, heavy rain accompanied by a cold wind started around 12 noon. Drivers faced dire situations due to water flowing on the roads. The possibility of crop damage has increased due to heavy rains in Paddhari Panthak.

In Ahmedabad, the atmosphere changed in the afternoon, and heavy rain with strong winds affected SG Highway, Ghuma, Bopal, Sarkhej, Thaltej, Gota, C.G. Road, Nehru Nagar, while Shahibagh and Bapu Nagar experienced torrential rains.

It is noteworthy that the creation of cyclonic circulation in Afghanistan and surrounding areas has led to heavy rainfall in Gujarat.

In Bhavnagar city, lightning and semi-seasonal rains started early in the morning, affecting areas including Subhash Nagar, Kalen Nala, Ghogha Circle, Crescent, and Shivaji Circle. Two days ago, heavy rain and strong winds hit rural areas, and sudden rains today have farmers fearing extensive damage to various crops.

Unseasonal rains have been recorded in many areas of Jamnagar, soaking the agricultural produce lying in the open at the marketing yard in Kalavad. Despite the rain forecast, crops, including cotton, wheat, and cumin, were left exposed in the yard. Farmers and traders rushed to save their produce, facing losses as their crops soaked in water.

Even in the city of Khambhaliya, the roads became waterlogged due to heavy rain early in the morning amid the rainy atmosphere.

There was a change in the atmosphere in Malpur and Yatradham Shamlaji early in the morning. Sudden rain occurred in Shamlaji and surrounding villages, as well as in Malpur and surrounding areas. In North Gujarat, devotees were seen paying obeisance at Ambaji temple during the ongoing rain. Chachar Chowk of Ambaji temple is filled with water due to rain.

There was a cloudy atmosphere in Deesa early in the morning today. The sky was surrounded by dark clouds, followed by gusts of rain. In Bhuj, heavy downpours were reported around 3 o’clock in the morning. Water was reported on the roads in Mundra, Anjar, Gandhidham, and Bhachau areas due to heavy rains.

According to the latest bulletin from the Indian Meteorological Centre in Gujarat, light to moderate rain/thundershowers are very likely in several districts today in the state, such as Banaskantha, Sabarkantha, Aravalli, Mahisagar, Dahod, Chota Udepur, Vadodara, Panchmahal, Kheda, Anand, Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, Mehsana, and Patan. In Saurashtra, Kutch, Morbi, Surendranagar, Botad, Bhavnagar, Amreli, Gir Somnath, and Rajkot, rainfall may occur from 2nd March at 8:30 am to 3rd March at 8:30 am.

The rest of the areas in Gujarat will experience dry weather. There is no prediction of rainfall after 8:30 am on 3rd March. DeshGujarat
