GU implements strict policy to remove illegal occupants from hostels

Ahmedabad: After its international students were attacked by a few non-residents within their hostels, Gujarat University (GU) is intensifying its efforts to monitor visitors and occupants in its accommodation facilities. It has been learned that Block A, housing international students, also had around 6 unauthorized occupants.
Vice Chancellor Neerja Gupta announced on Monday a stringent policy aimed at ensuring the safety of both residents and visitors on campus. ‘We will not allow any student who has not been assigned a room in GU hostels to stay there. This includes friends of students with allocated rooms, former students, and individuals preparing for exams again. They will be required to vacate as we begin a search for unauthorized occupants,’ Gupta stated.
However, Gupta mentioned that GU is contemplating providing room rental options on campus for academic purposes, under specific conditions. Furthermore, the university is considering relocating Hostel Block B, currently situated adjacent to Block A and near CEPT hostels, to a more integrated location within the GU premises. As these blocks are somewhat isolated, GU is planning to reorganize the GU hostel blocks so they can be separated from other hostels by a gate for security purposes.
Meanwhile, three more individuals were arrested in connection with the clash, bringing the total number of arrests to five. The arrested persons were identified as Kshitij Kamlesh Pandey, Jitendra Ghanshyam Patel, and Sahil Arunbhai Dudhtiuva, residents of Naranpura, Ghatlodia, and Memnagar respectively. They have been remanded for three days.
The accused were among a group of 20-25 individuals who have been booked in the case related to the clash at the university’s international boys hostel on Saturday night. Two other suspects, Hitesh Rakhubhai Mewada and Bharat Damodarbhai Patel, were apprehended by the police on Sunday. DeshGujarat
