Final death toll of Rajkot fire tragedy is 27; FIR against one for false missing person complaint

Rajkot: A total of 27 people died in the tragic inferno at the TRP Gamezone in Rajkot. They have been identified with the help of DNA matching, stated the Relief Commissioner of Gujarat, providing details about the steps taken by the administration after the mishap.

The official said that in the first step, the disaster management and the police teams made a list of missing people with the help of families who were at the incident site. Later, as soon as the dead bodies were recovered on the night of the incident, they were brought to the Civil Hospital for post-mortem, and DNA sampling procedures of the victims and their family members were completed late at night. The samples were sent to Gandhinagar via Air Ambulance for FSL.

DNA samples of 27 dead bodies were taken, along with samples from their family members. After comparing all these samples, it was confirmed that 27 people had died in the incident, and the bodies were handed over to their guardians.

Misleading information was circulating that some people were being treated for burns or had died in a private hospital. However, Trinity Hospital refuted those reports through a video on social media. The Mamlatdar also took the statement of the hospital manager further proving the matter false.

In another case, an FIR has been registered under section 211 against one Hiteshbhai alias Vijaybhai Labhshankar Pandya, who had made a false complaint that three people including his nephew, and two children of his old neighbor, were missing.

One Deputy Mamlatdar and one PSI have been appointed for all 27 victims. They are responsible for contacting the families of the deceased from when the body is handed over for cremation until the process of assistance from the CM Relief Fund and PM Relief Fund is completed.

The F.S.L. team worked continuously day and night to match the DNA of the bodies with the DNA of the family members. At present, there are no pending complaints from any of the guardian heirs regarding the missing of their family members, and 27 dead bodies have been handed over to their family members.
