Over 19K travel on Ahmedabad – Gandhinagar metro rail in first week since launch
September 25, 2024
Gandhinagar: In the week since its inauguration, around 19,600 people have traveled on the Gandhinagar-Ahmedabad Metro rail service. According to provisional numbers, the daily number of metro riders during the week ranged from 1,840 to 5,460 passengers.
The service under the Ahmedabad Metro Rail Project Phase II was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on September 16 and became available to the public on September 17.
Looking at the station-wise numbers, around 8,220 passengers traveled from Gandhinagar Sector 1 station, 2,680 from GNLU metro station, 2,500 from PDPU station, 2,620 from Infocity, 2,300 from Dhaulkuva, and 1,360 from GIFT City.
This number indicates a good response to the metro rail service between the two cities, especially considering that currently, fewer rides are available and the service operates only until around 6 PM. The frequency and timings are likely to be increased at a later stage. It’s worth noting that not all metro stations on the routes above opened on September 17.
This high number of riders can also be attributed to the curiosity of the people, as the service is newly launched, and many are trying to explore whether the metro ride will be a viable option as an alternative mode of transport. DeshGujarat
