PM Modi may inaugurate Tata Aircraft Complex in Vadodara on Diwali

Vadodara: Prime Minister Narendrabhai Modi is likely to visit Vadodara in Gujarat on Diwali day to inaugurate the Tata Aircraft Complex by Tata Advanced System. Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) teams could be seen today on the site for initial preparations, including buidling of roads for the Prime Minister’s visit.

On October 30, 2022, Prime Minister Modi laid the foundation stone for India’s first private-sector aircraft manufacturing facility in Vadodara, Gujarat, dedicated to producing C-295 transport aircraft. This facility, a joint venture between Tata Advanced Systems Limited and Airbus Defence and Space S.A. (Spain), will build aircraft for the Indian Air Force (IAF). It marks a significant milestone as the first project where a military aircraft will be manufactured in India by a private company, with an overall project cost of ₹21,935 crore.

The C-295 aircraft, which can also serve civilian purposes, is part of a broader plan initiated in September 2021 when India confirmed the purchase of 56 Airbus C-295 planes to replace the IAF’s aging AVRO fleet. This initiative is the country’s first private-sector ‘Make in India’ aerospace project, encompassing all aspects of aircraft production—from manufacturing and assembly to testing, delivery, and full lifecycle maintenance.
