Key areas of Ahmedabad declared as ‘No Cattle Zones’
February 03, 2026
Ahmedabad: In order to curb the menace of stray cattle across the city, the authorities have launched the “Zero Tolerance to Cattle Nuisance” campaign. As part of the drive, the Police Commissioner has declared several areas as ‘No Cattle Zones’, including Gota Ward in the North West Zone; Sardarnagar Ward in the North Zone; Khadiya Ward in the Central Zone; Maninagar Ward and Kankaria in the South Zone; and Navrangpura Ward, Stadium Ward, Paldi Ward, Nava Vadaj Ward, Naranpura Ward, Chandkheda Ward, Motera and Sabarmati areas in the West Zone.
Keeping in mind the increasing footfall at key public places in these areas, joint teams comprising the CNCD Department of the Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC), City Police, SRP, and various sub-zone offices have begun strict enforcement of ‘No Cattle Zone’ notifications across Ahmedabad.
In accordance with directions of the Supreme Court and the Gujarat High Court, and in line with the State Government’s Stray Cattle Control Policy–2023, the Corporation’s CNCD Department has deployed special teams to control stray cattle in the city. These teams are working round the clock in three shifts, capturing stray cattle from various areas and shifting them to designated cattle pounds, an official statement said.
To prevent obstructions caused by stray cattle in high-traffic zones such as the airport, railway stations, gardens, religious places, bus stations, Sabarmati Ashram, stadiums, schools, colleges, universities, markets, bridges, ring roads, underpasses, junctions, national highways and the S.P. Ring Road, multiple areas have been notified as ‘No Cattle Zones’.
For effective implementation, joint inspections are being carried out by the Municipal Corporation and the Police Department. Informative boards are being installed in notified zones, while inspections of cattle shelters, verification of licences and permits, relocation of cattle, and strict enforcement actions are underway. Action is being initiated against owners keeping cattle without valid licences or exceeding permitted limits. Licensed cattle owners are being given an opportunity to shift their cattle outside the city, failing which the cattle are being seized and moved to cattle pounds.
Under the campaign, a recent joint drive in the Maninagar area of the South Zone was conducted by teams from CNCD, Solid Waste Management, local police, SRP and the Estate Department. During the operation, 94 cattle under 19 licences and permits were shifted outside the city, while 19 cattle sheds and one water trough were removed. Informative boards have also been installed in the no-cattle zone areas.
The enforcement drive has commenced in several areas including Stadium, Motera, Vadaj, Naranpura, Navrangpura, Airport, Sola, Ghatlodia, Maninagar, Kankaria, Khadiya and Sarangpur. DeshGujarat
