Gujarat Erupts in Joy: Streets Light Up with Fireworks, Flags and Chants After India’s T20 World Cup Triumph

Ahmedabad:Gujarat turned into a sea of blue and tricolour last night as ecstatic fans poured onto the streets across the state following India’s commanding 96-run victory over New Zealand in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 final at Narendra Modi Stadium.

The win, marking India’s third T20 title and the first successful defence on home soil, sparked widespread celebrations from Ahmedabad to Surat, Vadodara, Rajkot and beyond.

In Ahmedabad, the epicentre of the triumph, thousands flooded key areas like Sindhubhavan Road, Shastri Nagar, Maninagar etc. Fireworks lit up the night sky outside the stadium and across neighbourhoods, turning the city into a festive spectacle.

Crowds waved Indian flags, burst crackers, danced to dhol beats and chanted “India jeet gaya” and “Vande Mataram” long after the final wicket fell around 10:30 pm. Social media footage showed massive gatherings with people embracing, honking horns in bike rallies and creating a “sea of tricolours” that echoed through the streets.

Similar scenes unfolded in Surat and Rajkot, where fans took to public spaces, lighting fireworks and organising impromptu victory parades. In Vadodara, enthusiastic supporters gathered in large numbers, waving flags and celebrating with music and dance.

Reports described an “atmosphere of celebration sweeping across Gujarat,” with people of all ages joining in the revelry.

The state’s major cities saw traffic come to a joyful standstill as processions blocked roads, with no major incidents reported amid the high spirits.

The celebrations extended well past midnight, blending patriotic fervour with the pride of hosting the final at the world’s largest cricket venue.

As one reveller put it in viral clips: “This is Diwali early in March!”

India’s dominant performance—posting 255/5 before bowling out New Zealand for 159—ignited this outpouring of joy, reminding everyone why cricket remains a unifying force in Gujarat and across the country. DeshGujarat
