Ahmedabad: Hours after India’s commanding 96-run victory over New Zealand in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 final, captain Suryakumar Yadav, head coach Gautam Gambhir and ICC Chairman Jay Shah visited a Hanuman Temple located right next to the Narendra Modi stadium, within the stadium campus in Ahmedabad to offer prayers with the newly-won trophy.
The trio arrived at the temple carrying the gleaming silver cup, performing aarti and seeking blessings in a quiet display of gratitude following the team’s successful title defence — the first time any side has retained the T20 World Cup on home soil. Video footage shared by news agencies showed the group inside the temple premises, with the trophy placed reverently as they participated in the rituals. “Showing gratitude towards God ,” one widely circulated clip was captioned.
The visit continued a pattern of devotion seen throughout the tournament. Before the final, several players including Gambhir and Suryakumar had prayed at the same or a nearby Hanuman temple for strength and success.
