Centre Allocates 1,452 KL Kerosene to Gujarat; Collectors to Oversee District-wise Distribution
March 13, 2026
Ahmedabad: The Government of India has allocated 1,452 kilolitres (KL) of kerosene on an ad hoc basis to Gujarat for the year 2025–26 in view of possible energy supply concerns arising from the current global geopolitical situation, according to an official press note issued by the state Food and Civil Supplies Department.
The allocation has been made by the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas through a letter dated March 12, 2026. The kerosene will mainly be used for cooking and lighting purposes, particularly for vulnerable families in rural and tribal areas of the state.
Officials said the state government has initiated the process to distribute the kerosene to Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY) and Priority Household (PHH) families in rural areas of tribal districts.
The procedure for distribution will be as follows:
Out of the 1,452 KL allocated by the Central Government, 36 KL (36,000 litres) will be allotted to each district under the control of the District Collector.
From the above quantity, the Collector will be able to allocate 5 (five) litres per family and 25 (twenty-five) litres per institution.
The quantity will be lifted in multiples of 12,000 litres by sending demand to the concerned authority through the Collector.
The distribution will be supervised by the District Collector and the District Supply Officer.
Priority in distribution of kerosene will be given to the following categories:
-
Rural families and beneficiaries living in remote areas
-
Children residing in school hostels and institutions covered under the Mid-Day Meal programme
-
Registered old-age homes, food centres (community kitchens), and other service institutions
-
For preparation of food for labourers working at construction sites or industrial units
-
Other government or private social institutions that are completely dependent on LPG for fuel
Advisory to citizens
The state government said that adequate stocks of petrol, diesel, and domestic LPG are available in Gujarat and urged citizens not to make panic bookings.
To regulate supply, a guideline has been issued to maintain a gap of 25 days in urban areas and 45 days in rural areas between two LPG cylinder bookings by the same consumer, so that unnecessary online bookings can be avoided and server load reduced.
Citizens have also been advised to conserve fuel by:
-
Using pressure cookers and alternative cooking methods
-
Using solar energy where possible
-
Keeping air-conditioner temperature at 25°C or above to save electricity
-
Using public transport and carpooling to reduce petrol and diesel consumption
For complaints related to kerosene distribution, citizens can contact the Food and Civil Supplies Department helpline at 079-23252680. DeshGujarat
