Schools Shut in Surat, Navsari and Valsad as Incessant Rains Lash South Gujarat

Surat: In view of continuous heavy rainfall across South Gujarat and the India Meteorological Department’s (IMD) heavy rain alert, authorities have declared a holiday for schools in Surat, Navsari and Valsad districts on Thursday, July 23, 2026. The decision has been taken as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of students.

According to an order issued by the Surat District Education Officer, all primary, secondary and higher secondary schools under municipal corporations, municipalities and rural areas across the district will remain closed on July 23 due to the forecast of heavy rainfall.

In Navsari district, authorities have also ordered the closure of all Anganwadis, schools, colleges and ITI institutions after heavy rains led to waterlogging in low-lying areas and the IMD forecast more rainfall. Educational institutions have been advised to continue classes online wherever feasible.

Similarly, the Valsad District Education Officer has declared a holiday for all schools on July 23 in view of heavy rainfall, waterlogging in several areas and disruptions to normal movement. Schools have also been instructed to arrange online classes, wherever possible, to minimise disruption to academic activities.

Meanwhile, the Dang district administration has also declared a holiday for schools and colleges after the district recorded an average rainfall of 198 mm in the last 24 hours. With rivers in spate and waterlogging reported in several low-lying areas, authorities have appealed to residents to remain alert and exercise caution. DeshGujarat
