AMC seals Fadiyu Garba venue over ₹39 lakh in unpaid rent, deposit

Ahmedabad: The Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has sealed its plot near Jagatpur-Gota Road after the organisers of a four-day Garba event, Fadiyu, allegedly failed to pay ₹39 lakh in rent and security deposit despite being issued a demand notice.
According to AMC Standing Committee Chairman Kamleshbhai Patel, organiser Ashish Patel had submitted an online application seeking permission to hold the event on the civic body’s land. The AMC subsequently issued a demand note for ₹39 lakh towards rent and the security deposit.
The organiser was given a deadline to clear the dues by the afternoon of October 15. However, the payment remained outstanding, prompting the civic body to seal the plot, Patel said.
The incident has raised questions about the functioning of the AMC Estate Department, as the Garba event reportedly took place despite the required payment not being made.
As per the civic body’s procedure, organisers seeking to use municipal plots must pay the prescribed rent and security deposit online and obtain the necessary permissions from the police and fire brigade, along with completing other formalities, before taking possession of the premises.
The event’s reported operation despite the outstanding dues has raised questions about how the organisers were allowed to use the plot before completing the payment and obtaining the required clearances. DeshGujarat
